To enter the international marketplace, you or your staff will need the skills to plan, implement and administer export business. If these skills do not already exist within your business there are several ways to learn or improve export skills.
Recruitment may attract skills to your firm in the form of a 'ready made' person (or people). Those recruited will need to understand the goals and strategies of the firm and to learn about its products and services. It will take time before they can operate at their full potential.
Many Australian companies are experienced exporters with knowledge about how to conduct successful business in markets where they have experience. If they're willing to share this knowledge, it can save you considerable time learning about issues such as export logistics, market research techniques, different cultural and business practices and setting priorities for market entry.
Businesses may elect to send staff members to special export training courses to equip them to deal with the requirements of doing business internationally. Some institutions offer short courses to quickly familiarise students with export requirements and longer, more formal courses leading to accreditation or a recognised qualification for people that successfully complete them.
A fourth option is to outsource the entire export function to a specialist organisation. This might include a trading house of a size appropriate to your business and intentions.
