  • Hi-tech manufacturer scoops major Export Awards

    21 Oct 09 | Scientific instrument manufacturer Varian Australia has been named Victorian Exporter of the Year after generating sales in excess of $150 million a year from production and export of their innovative technologies.

    Announcing the winners of the 13 Governor of Victoria Export Awards for 2009, Minister for Industry and Trade Martin Pakula said the Mulgrave based company had also won the award for Innovation Excellence and the Large Advance Manufacturer award.

    All category winners will now progress to represent Victoria at the national 2009 Australian Export Awards.

    14 Oct 09 | Australia’s monthly trade deficit was $1524 million, down from $1783 million. Exports fell 2 % including a large decline in coal. Monthly imports fell 3 % including a decline in fuels. The decline in Victoria included falls in exports of cars, aluminium and petroleum partly offset by increases in exports of pharmaceuticals, vegetables-fruit and cereals.

Monthly imports rose 4 % including a large rise in fuels. A decline in Victoria included falls in exports of motor vehicles, non-ferrous metals (aluminium), petroleum and car engines partly offset by increases in exports of pharmaceuticals and vegetables and fruit.
