The rates of change above refer to exports of goods in the latest three months compared with the same period a year ago.
The decline in Victoria included falls in exports of cars, aluminium and petroleum partly offset by increases in exports of pharmaceuticals, vegetables-fruit and cereals.
Australia’s monthly trade deficit was $1524 million, down from $1783 million. Exports fell 2 % including a large decline in coal. Monthly imports fell 3 % including a decline in fuels.
The higher Australian dollar reduced both exports and imports during the winter. Apart from the impact of the falling dollar, Australia’s mining exports have levelled out following a sharp decline in the first half of 2009.
