Detekt is a service-based company offering clients industrial and graphic design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and liaison. Because of the small size of the design services industry within Australia, Detekt was born global with a clear vision that the company would conduct its business worldwide.
Assisting companies to design and engineer, together with providing an opportunity to synchronise into the Chinese manufacturing environment, Detekt’s clientele currently spans a range of countries including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland and South Africa. Exporting has been very successful for Detekt.
“The company officially kicked off the first stage of our global roll out in 2006.” says founder and Managing Director, Daniel Roney. “Two years later we have a wholly owned foreign enterprise in China.”
Detekt now find themselves in the second stage of growth after completing a seamless connection with China’s global manufacturing capability. Office expansions are planned from the UK in 2009 and in the USA soon after.
Daniel readily acknowledges the Victorian Government’s assistance in helping the company gain overseas success.
“Detekt has been connected with State Government programs for the last five years. The main benefit initially was being involved in the trade fairs, visiting, exhibiting and fact-finding. That was the company’s first step into Asia, where we’ve ended up setting up our operations. The opportunity was invaluable.”
Also of assistance to Detekt is the Victorian Government Business Office. Together they work on the ground in Hong Kong.
“Having a platform that is an extension of the Victorian Government in the region has been a really stabilising factor. It’s support, having somewhere to go. We probably drop into their office every two weeks. It’s good to be able to have discussions, to get advice. They’ve even referred us to potential clients.”
