Export Connections

The Victorian Government and Export

A key part of Victoria’s future economic prosperity depends largely on Victorian exporters achieving success in the international marketplace. With growth in global trade continuing, it is important for Victorian companies to realise the export opportunity.

The Victorian Government’s broad strategic policy framework guiding all governmental export-related activity is its 10-year vision for Victoria, Growing Victoria Together (2001) and GVT: The story so far, 2005). Central to this is a commitment to:

ensure more quality jobs and thriving, innovative industries across Victoria; and

increase Victoria’s productivity, competitiveness and exports.

The Government’s major economic statement, Victoria: Leading the way (2004), enhances the competitiveness and export performance of Victorian businesses with priority actions that:

  • Stimulate investment and new jobs across the State;
  • Invest in world’s best infrastructure for moving goods to markets cheaper and faster;
  • Make Victoria the location of choice in a global economy;
  • Foster innovative and export-oriented businesses;
  • Create a best practice business environment by cutting red tape and lowering costs;
  • Maximise the sustainable returns from our natural resource base; and
  • Boost competitiveness and growth in Victoria’s services sector.

Through the Opening Doors to Export Plan, the Victorian Government:

  • Assists businesses in gaining awareness and knowledge of exporting through focused communication;
  • Supports businesses in sustaining and growing their export efforts;
  • Promotes Victorian industry capabilities to international target markets; and
  • Coordinates and builds Government export service capacities to ensure firms have access to world class export assistance.

The Victorian Government’s Export website gives Victorian business access to export-related information such as:

  • Easy access to government export grants and assistance programs;
  • Guides for developing strategies to commence or expand exports; and
  • Export-related contacts and assistance.

The Export Connections members’ area is a gateway for Victorian businesses to access global markets:

  • Export opportunities and information is tailored to your countries and industries of interest;
  • Exporting knowledge is shared in secure online forums; and
  • This wealth of information is free of charge.
